Day Twenty-five – 6.23.15

A windy day in Canada.

I spend the day riding through beautiful Canadian countryside under spectacular clouds. The scenery is great, but the extreme wind gusts keep me very focused on the road. I’m in the piece of the country sandwiched between Lake Huron and Lake Erie. Obviously with little obstruction for the wind, it really picks up speed. I’m happy to see that they are taking advantage of it though, as I rode for about two hours surrounded by massive windmills sprawling as far as I could see.

I contemplated riding around the top edge of Lake Huron, but decided that I wanted to see Detroit. After crossing back into the US on the Ambassador Bridge, I make a few laps around downtown. I eventually stumble on a cool neighborhood right on the Detroit River and check-in to a hotel on the Riverwalk promenade.

I spend the evening exploring the industrial neighborhood that seems like it’s reached its adaptive reuse adolescence. There are a few bars and restaurants and a number of newly opened apartment complexes in old industrial buildings. It seems like it would be a great place to stake a claim if you want a piece of Detroit.
