Day Forty-eight – 7.16.15

My trek across the evergreen state.

I spend the morning exploring Spokane, then decide to jump on Interstate 90 and head for Seattle. I’ve never been to Seattle and it’s a city I look forward to checking out. Most of 280 mile ride in central Washington is through farmland. The crops seem to vary pretty widely, but generally it’s much dryer than I expected.

Eventually I hit the Columbia River. The view of the river before I head over the Vantage Bridge is pretty spectacular.

Once on the west side of the river, I soon pass through the Wenatchee National Forest over the Snoqualmie Pass. I see where the state gets it’s evergreen nickname.

My timing is just right to hit rush hour traffic in Seattle. Eventually I make it into the city and find a place to stay in the neighborhood of Belltown. The area is close to the water and bustling with people. There are a lot of new residential buildings going up in the area and the bars and restaurants abound. I enjoy a meandering walk around the city on a warm Thursday evening. The sunset over the marina with Mt. Rainier off in the distance is a very flattering view of Seattle.
