Day Fifty-three – 7.21.15

Cruising on the Pacific Coast Highway.

I wake up to a lush view outside my tent this morning. The curvy coastal roads and amazing ocean scenery begin soon after.

I jump off the Pacific Coast Highway to explore the Oregon Dunes. The roads snaking through the dunes are fun and the view from atop one of the dunes describes how vast they are.

Unfortunately my debit card had been comprised at one of the innumerable gas stations I’ve stopped at over the last seven weeks. I hang out with a very chatty banker named Kimberly at the Bank of America in Reedsport, OR while she reconciles my account and issues me a temporary card.

She finally relinquishes my temporary card after over an hour of rigmarole and I’m back on the road. The amazing views from the PCH in the afternoon are spectacular.

In the late afternoon I ride over the Thomas Creek Bridge. Apparently it’s the tallest bridge in the state at 345 feet. Riding that high above terra firma on a narrow two-lane bridge with low guardrails is quite a thrill.

After looking at the ocean all day, I’m inspired to jump in. I end my day of riding in Brookings, OR and find a motel on the water. The water is chilly, but it feels refreshing after a day of riding.
